Tajikistan renews call for flood warning system for 126-MW Kayrakkum

The government of Tajikistan has renewed a solicitation for a flood early warning system for 126-MW Kayrakkum Dam on Tajikistan’s Syr Darya River. Bids are due November 15.

The government invited expressions of interest in 2012 from consultants to prepare the early warning system. Tajikistan received a US$13 million grant from the World Bank’s International Development Association to carry out the Ferghana Valley Water Resources Management Project, which includes work on Kayrakkum Dam (also spelled Kairakkum) and its reservoir, which was commissioned in 1957.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development recruited Austrian firms in 2012 for a feasibility study of rehabilitating Kayrakkum. The government also took bids for geotechnical investigation and instrumentation works at the project.

The Project Management Unit of the Ferghana Valley Water Resources Management Project now seeks bids for procurement and installation of a flood early warning system for Kayrakkum Reservoir. The work is to require six months.
