The Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) invites expressions of interest from consulting firms to assess the status of the 120-MW Misicuni hydroelectric project and to recommend mitigation for any perceived problems. Responses are due July 24.
Bolivia utility Empresa Nacional de Electricidad recruited firms in May to supervise civil construction and equipment installation to complete the hydro project, which is being carried out separately from construction of the multi-purpose Misicuni Dam.
Last year, Empresa Misicuni, Bolivia’s special purpose company to develop the Misicuni multi-purpose project, took bids from firms to resume construction of the dam, spillway and related underground construction works following 2013 rescission of a contract with Italian-led consortium Consorcio Hidroelectrico Misicuni.
In the current solicitation, IADB seeks consultants to analyze the status of implementation of four major contracts for the Misicuni hydro project, including underground works; civil works in the area; design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of main equipment; and design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of the penstock.
Over two months at an estimated cost of US$50,000, the consultant is to make a technical assessment of project status, work performed, contractor methods, and timelines. The consultant is to identify risks and problems in implementing the contracts and recommend mitigation of risks and problems.
