The government of Kenya seeks expressions of interest in feasibility studies and design of Nzoia River flood control structures including the potential for hydropower generation. Responses are due July 30.
With funding from the World Bank’s International Development Association, Kenya is implementing the Western Kenya Community Driven Development and Flood Mitigation Project. In June, the Ministry of State for Special Programs took bids from consultants to survey the flood plain and seven dams on the Nzoia. (HNN 5/8/08)
Now the agency seeks consultant services to conduct a feasibility study and prepare detailed designs of multipurpose dams in the Nzoia River Basin with the primary purpose of flood control and secondary purposes of irrigation, hydropower generation, and other water uses.
The study is to address technical, economic, environmental, and social aspects of the dams and to identify optimal structures within the middle and upper reaches of the Nzoia River to manage flooding in accordance with local, international, and World Bank standards.
Expressions of interest are due to the address below by 5 p.m. July 30. They must be labeled �Western Kenya Community Driven Development and Flood Mitigation Project: Expression of Interest: Consultancy on Feasibility Studies and Final Design Preparation of Flood Control Structures Within Nzoia River Basin.�
