The government of Guyana invites expressions of interest from consultants to upgrade dam safety operation, maintenance and surveillance plans for dams of the East Demerara Water Conservancy. Responses are due September 18.
The Guyana government abandoned plans in August to develop the 165-MW Amaila Falls hydroelectric plant. However, a private company also announced plans to rehabilitate the long-defunct 1.5-MW Tumatumari hydropower plant, located in the country’s central Potaro-Siparuni region.
With funding from the World Bank’s International Development Association for a flood risk management project, Guyana’s Ministry of Agriculture now seeks consultants to upgrade operation, maintenance and surveillance plans for the East Demerara dams in line with World Bank dam safety policy to ensure safe and efficient dam operation. The work is expected to require two months.
