POWERGEN International-the one annual conference focused on power generation in all its forms all around the world-is little more than five months away. And it will be here before you know it.
Early registration is now open for the event happening Nov. 19-21 in New Orleans. POWERGEN International will include seven content tracks focused on both baseload and emerging generation resources, as well as six Knowledge Hub stages on the exhibit floor.
“The industry is obviously changing exponentially with the growth of solar, wind and energy storage on the grid,” said Rod Walton, content director for POWERGEN International. “At the same time, there is great need and ample space for the gas, coal and nuclear fueled power plants providing steady, baseload power, as well as the diesel and gas-fired on-site engine-generator sets fundamentally backing up the energy needs at military bases, hospitals, universities and data centers.
“Our goal at POWERGEN International is focus due respect on all of those fronts. We need it all, and the event tries to give it all.”
POWERGEN also is renewing its focus on the end user of all these technologies both new and fundamental-the utilities. Among the experts speaking at the conference will include engineers and other specialists from AES, Duke Energy, Southern Co., Southern California Edison, Evergy, Exelon, Salt River Project, Public Service Co. of Oklahoma and WE Energies within the U.S.
Utilities and other companies putting the International in POWERGEN include Korea South-East Power Co, Enel and EDF, among others. Service companies with employees also presenting include Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, GE Power, Siemens, Ansaldo Energia, American Fire Technologies, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Doosan, ABB, Kiewit, Zachry, Bechtel and many more.
Researchers and associations sending speakers to POWERGEN include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Generating Systems Association, Navigant, Electric Power Research Institute and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, among others.
The Summit conference tracks held upstairs at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center will be Digital Transformation of the Power Plant, Energy Storage Breakthroughs, Gas-Fired Turbines and Plants, Microgrids, 0n-Site Power, Optimizing Plant Performance and the Future of Coal-Fired Generation. These are 90-minute, multi-speaker panels and paper sessions.
The Knowledge Hubs on the exhibit floor will include shorter, solo presentations on Decentralized Energy, the Future of Conventional Power, Smart Power Plant-IOT,Natural Gas and Renewables Solar, Wind and Hydropower. The Renewables Hub uniquely will include some longer panel presentations.
The registration offerings vary according to the attendees’ needs. Employees for power generators can receive a discounted rate. New this year will be a zero-dollar option for qualified registrants who will receive limited access to the exhibition floor and Knowledge Hubs.
POWERGEN is still building out its sessions as new speakers come onboard. Details on new sessions will be released as available.

POWERGEN University (PGU)-which offers longer, continuing education content-will be on Monday, Nov. 18 at the same site. PGU has a separate registration fee from the conference.
