DistribuTECH Brasil, HydroVision Brasil attract 1,700 attendees

Rio De Janeiro, October 4, 2012 — PennWell Corp. announced record attendance at the second annual HydroVision Brasil and more than 750 registered attendees at the first annual DistribuTECH Brasil held jointly 25-27 September 2012 at the RioCentro Convention Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

More than 100 companies from around the world exhibited at the events, showcasing the latest products, technologies and services for the hydropower and transmission and distribution sectors.

“We were honored to host Flavio Decat, President, Eletrobras Furnas; Elaine Franca Fonseca, Assistant to the Director of Distribution, Eletrobras; Sergio Gomes, Vice President, Latin America Region, Alstom Grid; and Jerson Kelman, well-known electricity industry expert in our opening keynote session last week and are proud of the great successes we experienced in Rio de Janeiro,” said Marla Barnes, Publisher of PennWell’s Hydropower Group.

“These events are an important platform for industry leaders to come together to exchange information, present new solutions and discuss future developments most critical to the growth of the Latin American energy market,” added Michael Grossman, Publisher of PennWell’s Transmission and Distribution Group.

Held over three days, the conference programs of the two events were comprised of multiple tracks and more than 30 sessions. Collectively, they provided hundreds of conference delegates with comprehensive insight into a mix of strategic and technological energy issues related to the sustainability and continued expansion of the hydropower and transmission and distribution industries.

“We are very pleased with the attendance of more than 1,700 registrants at HydroVision Brasil and DistribuTECH Brasil. This demonstrates that the combination of these two events is the right solution to attract professionals from around the world and across all segments of the energy market,” said Barnes. “As demand for power increases in Brazil as well as other Latin American countries, the topics discussed this week truly represent the future of energy in this rapidly growing and ever-evolving region of the world.”

HydroVision Brasil’s conference program focused on key strategies and solutions surrounding new hydro energy production, environmental protection and management, regulatory issues, risk management, small and medium hydro energy, and equipment and technology.

DistribuTECH Brasil featured content covering smart metering, distribution automation, energy efficiency, commercial energy losses and long-distance high-voltage electricity transmission issues. Professionals discussed the substantial issues surrounding hydroelectric power production and transmission and distribution challenges, and how future electricity demands can be met.

“These events were met with great support from the industry. The momentum seen from last week’s success underscores the importance of such a platform to the industry and the acute international interest in the Brazilian market. With support from LIGHT, Eletrobras Furnas, ITAIPU Binacional, COPEL, AES Brasil and Grupo Energisa as Power Partners of the events, the quality of attendees was exceptional,” said Grossman.

Next year’s HydroVision Brasil and DistribuTECH Brasil will be held September 24-26, 2013 at the Transamerica Expo Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil and will be joined by the launch of POWER-GEN Brasil, a third co-located event focusing on the power generation sector.

HydroVision Brasil is presented by HRW-Hydro Review Worldwide and Hydro Review magazines and DistribuTECH Brasil is presented by POWERGRID International magazine. Both events are owned and produced by PennWell Corp. based in Tulsa, Okla.
