Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia invite expressions of interest from consultants to develop a hydrological planning model for management of multi-purpose reservoirs in the Neretva and Trebisnjica river basins. Responses are due November 11.
The Balkan neighbors received a GEF Trust Fund grant from the World Bank’s Global Environment Facility to help finance the Neretva and Trebisnjica River Basin Management Plan. In 2009, they recruited consultants to develop a management plan for the basins.
Work is to include two separate units:
o Development of a model for hydrological predictions, forecasting, and decision making to define guidelines for optimal management of multi-purpose reservoirs in the basins, including implementation of software support for managing the system of hydroelectric projects;
o Analysis of hydropower systems operations, and preparation of draft operating rules for particular hydropower structures in extreme cases such as floods, droughts, accidental pollution, and damage to structures.
Hydro projects in the Neretva Basin include 161-MW Rama Dam on the tributary Rama River and 35-MW Ulog, being built on the Neretva. Projects in the Trebisnjica Basin include 430-MW Capljina and 168-MW Trebinje 1 and 8-MW Trebinje 2.
