Sanima Hydro and Engineering has signed a contract agreement with SSCE – High Himalaya Hydro Construction Pvt. Ltd. JV for detailed engineering design and technical support during construction of the 20.6 MW Rolwaling Khola Hydroelectric Project.

Rolwaling Khola is a run-of-river hydro project located on the Rolwaling River at Dolakha District, Bagmati Province of Nepal. The project uses gross head of 220.50 m and design discharge of 13.4 m3/s.

The proposed intake site is about 7 km upstream of the powerhouse area of the 456 MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectric Project. The proposed powerhouse will be underground, contain two vertical Pelton turbines and be located downstream of the UTKHEP headworks. It is anticipated to produce 118 GWh of electricity annually.

In October 2021, Hydro Review reported that the Nepal Electricity Authority, Nepal Telecom, Citizens Investment Trust and Rastriya Beema Sansthan were the promoters of Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Limited (UTKHPL). At that time, UTKHPL, executing agency of the plant, was considering a second expansion stage, the 20 MW Rolwaling Khola Hydroelectric Project (RKHEP), which would contribute another 105 GWh.

Reports say project construction is anticipated to begin in 2026, with commercial operation by 2028.
