Pune, India [RenewableEnergyWorld.com] Suzlon Energy Limited has announced a retrofit program to resolve blade cracking issues discovered during operation of some of its S88 turbines in the U.S. The retrofit program involves the structural strengthening of 1251 blades on its S-88 2.1 MW turbines, Suzlon says.
Of the 417 sets of blades affected, 930 blades are already installed while the remaining blades are in transit or inventory. The retrofit will be carried out by maintaining a rolling stock of temporary replacement blades in order to minimize downtime for operational turbines and is expected to be completed in six months. The total cost of the retrofit program is estimated at $25 million.
“We have a close working relationship with our customers, and this program is a proactive measure to safeguard the interest of all our stakeholders. The retrofit program is designed to minimize impact for our customers and Suzlon,” said Andre Horbach, CEO of Suzlon.
