New energy storage initiatives were announced.
Inverter manufacturer Enphase unveiled a new energy management system with battery energy storage. The system, which will be available on a rolling basis beginning in the third quarter of 2015, will include 1.2 kWh of energy storage and 275W/550W power-output, with a control system that monitors into full revenue grade metering of solar production, metering of home consumption, and storage management.
In addition, Kyocera Solar announced that it was partnering with Stem, a technology company to offer an integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage solution for commercial power users.

SEPA announced its 2014 Utility Award Winners.
Clean Power Research‘s Jeff Ressler, President, Software Services discussed his company with Meg Cichon in Solar Central. Clean Power Research won a SEPA Utility Award in the Innovative Solar Partner category. Other winners are listed below:
- Investor Owned Utility of the Year: Paul Bowers, President, CEO, and Chairman, Georgia Power
- Public Power Utility of the Year: Lindsay Joye, Marketing Engineer, City of Palo Alto

SEPA put a little Las Vegas-spin in its booth, asking visitors to select a color to win a “solar-related” prize. SEPA also announced the 51st State Initiative, a new program in which it is asking the public to design an electricity market to meet customer desires for solar and other clean energy resources while ensuring the grid stays robust and reliable. Julia Hamm will explain more about the initiative in Solar Central on Wednesday, October 22.
