SAN DIEGO, Calif., July 26, 2002 — Siemens Westinghouse Power Corp. has purchased Tachyon’s new Mobile Network Access system to gain high-speed connectivity in temporary field locations across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
Tachyon’s Mobile Network Access, which was introduced this month, is the first cost-effective Internet or enterprise network connectivity service for organizations that need transportable broadband network access for special events, construction sites, emergency response or other short-term or remote location applications.
The TCP/IP standards-compliant system features a modular satellite dish and compact carrying cases that make it transportable to any location. Quickly deployable, it can be assembled to begin delivering public or private network access at T-1 speeds in approximately 30 minutes.
Siemens Westinghouse, a leading provider of power generation equipment and related services, will immediately begin utilizing Mobile Network Access to support its multinational service contracts with leading U.S. independent power companies.
At each customer location, Siemens technicians use digital cameras, taking eight to ten photographs of on-site equipment for Internet transmission to headquarters for analysis. High-speed transmission of these digital images can now take place directly from the field location thanks to the installation of Tachyon’s system.
