The Heavy Civil Infrastructure Business of Larsen & Toubro has secured an order from the Greenko Group for development of an off-stream pumped storage project in Madhya Pradesh, India.
The civil and hydromechanical works for the project will be executed through a consortium led by Larsen & Toubro, under a stringent timeline of 30 months. Upon completion, the project will be one of the largest clean energy projects of its kind in India, according to a release.
The Gandhisagar (or Gandhi Sagar) Pumped Storage Project (PSP), designed to meet a pumped storage capacity of 10,080 MWh, envisages creation of an upper reservoir near Khemla block village, while the existing Gandhisagar Reservoir will be the lower reservoir. The project involves constructing an upper dam (to form the upper reservoir), intake structure with approach channel, steel-lined buried penstock/pressure shaft (vertical and horizontal), surface powerhouse, draft tube tunnel, tailrace outlet structure and tailrace channel.
In September 2022, Hydro Review reported that ANDRITZ received an order from Greenko MP01 IREP Private Limited for the electromechanical works for the project, which includes design, manufacture, supply, transportation, erection, testing and commissioning of seven reversible pump units (five 240 MW units and two 120 MW units), main inlet valves and associated auxiliaries.
Greenko Group has an installed capacity base of 7.3 GW across solar, wind and hydro generation technologies spread over about 100 projects across 15 states. The group focuses on enabling carbon neutral solutions to achieve net zero goals of corporates and global economies at scale, according to a release. Greenko Group has 30 GWh of storage capacity under construction.
