Group Proposes Two Fuel Cell Power Plants in CT

New York [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Elemental Power Group (EPG) has proposed two projects for approval to the state of Connecticut through its Project 100 renewable energy request for proposals (RFP). If approved by the state, each large fuel cell power project will total approximately 30 megawatts (MW) of ultra-clean electrical generation.

One of the two projects is slated for Bridgeport, Connecticut, and the other is in Danbury. “Projects such as our Bridgeport and Danbury facilities are just the beginning of a strategy to supplement our nation’s renewable portfolio of hydro, wind, solar, biomass and geothermal sources with a highly efficient urban renewable energy resource,” said Robert Babcock, president of EPG. Project 100, established by the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF) to promote renewable energy sources in the state, provides incentives for the installation of 100 MW of renewable energy generation by 2008. EPG has proposed its projects under round two of Project 100; awards are to be announced near the end of March 2007. “Should we be granted an award by the CCEF, our plan is to have our facilities producing power by late 2008 and to be fully operational by the summer of 2009,” Babcock said. Both facilities will increase the local tax base, provide added electrical supply in areas in which it is needed, and help to transform areas that have lost their industrial base.
