Chinese battery technology provider BYD Co. Ltd. on June 30 said it has signed an energy storage joint development agreement with French utility EDF.
BYD said that the agreement covers both companies’ global subsidiaries and the markets in which they operate. The company expects it will begin comprehensive cooperation with EDF in the U.S., France and the UK, in the near future, but details of the agreement were not disclosed.
EDF Renewable Energy in March purchased 20 MW of BYD energy storage products for a project in McHenry County, Ill. The project is EDF’s first commercial storage system in North America.
