Transnuclear Inc. was contracted by Exelon (NYSE: EXC) to supply eight 61BTH dry shielded canisters (DSC) to store used nuclear fuel at the Limerick nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania.
Transnuclear will build the casks at its newly acquired North Carolina-based fabricator, Columbiana Hi Tech LLC. The casks can store up to 61 used fuel assemblies from a boiling water reactor and can be safely stored in the NUHOMS horizontal storage modules or the vertical TN-NOVA overpack.
The first four canisters will be delivered in 2014, with the remaining four delivered in 2015.
