European Union to Increase Fuel Cell Research

October 14, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] The European Commission will substantially boost research into hydrogen fuel cells technology to catch up with the United States and Japan. It did not specify an amount but, with global electricity demand expected to double by 2015 and decreasing fossil fuel resources, hydrogen is seen as a key energy source of the future. Overall funding for hydrogen cell research in the 15 EU nations is estimated at US$50 to US$60 million a year, or one third of US funding and one quarter of Japan’s.
