Zeist, The Netherlands [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] The European Commission has committed Euro 80 million [US$105 million] to the Global Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Fund (GEEREF) — and proposals are currently being sought for clean energy investments.
Applicants may include fund management companies, financial institutions, project developers or individuals that plan to develop a clean energy investment fund or intend to expand an existing fund into the clean energy sector. Triodos Investment Management and E Co, appointed to close the fund and build an investment pipeline, put forth the call for developers of clean energy projects as well in one or more countries to propose plans for a clean energy investment fund. GEEREF expects to make its first commitment by July 2007. Proposals are expected to meet criteria such as a financially sustainable business plan generating a fair return for investors; specified environmental and socioeconomic impacts; focus on small- and medium-sized clean energy projects (Call for Proposals for Clean Energy Investment Funds
