
Virginia’s first utility-scale battery storage project comes online

In addition to the battery installation at the Scott Solar project, a 2 MW battery storage project was commissioned in New Kent County in February and another 2 MW battery in Hanover County is scheduled to become operational later this year.
The Virginia State Corporation Commission approved the 16 MW/56 MWh portfolio in 2020.
Dominion said the projects will help the utility better understand how to deploy and operate battery storage projects to support renewable energy projects like wind and solar.
Combined, the projects cost around $33 million to build.
