Guys, One of the big savings that all of you are missing is that with every kW of energy saved i lighting; especially from relatively inefficient, hot sources is a savings in AC. Every kW cut saves the need to cool 3,140 BTU’s of hot air. Even in cool climates Ac goes 365 days a year in sealed buildings. Another big savings that you all have missed after concentrating on the energy only attitude was the amount of sick leave and reduced productivity if the lighting isn’t right. I learned this lesson with my first conservation project back in the late 1970’s. We cut the lighting load in half at an insurance office building by disconnecting one ballast in each troffer. Sick leave was reduced by 20% and the number of key strokes jumped as well because of the reduced glare.
