TVA names new vice president

President and CEO Bill Johnson on Thursday named Ricardo “Ric” Perez as the Tennessee Valley Authority’s senior vice president for shared services, responsible for supply chain & facilities, natural resources & real property services, information technology and TVA police & emergency management.

Perez, who most recently served as TVA‘s senior vice president for nuclear operations support, joined TVA after 30 years at Westinghouse Electric Co., including three years as president and COO.

“Ric is recognized throughout the industry as a strong leader with extensive experience over a broad range of management areas,” said Johnson. “We are pleased to have him at the helm of our shared services organization as we continue to provide low-cost, reliable power; manage our natural resources, and help create jobs across the Valley.”

As president and COO at Westinghouse, Perez headed the company’s global facilities, delivery resources and major product areas. He led most of the company’s 14,000 employees, six regulated facilities and numerous manufacturing and engineering centers before retiring in 2012. In his operational leadership roles, he made significant improvements in industrial safety, operational exposure and quality performance.

The Tennessee Valley Authority is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power distributors serving 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. TVA receives no taxpayer funding, deriving virtually all of its revenues from sales of electricity. In addition to operating and investing its revenues in its electric system, TVA provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists local power companies and state and local governments with economic development and job creation.
