TVA promotes Thomas, Herrin, and McCormick
John M. Thomas III is chief financial officer, Janet C. Herrin is executive vice president for people and performance, and John J. McCormick, Jr. is senior vice president of river operations for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
Thomas is leading TVA’s financial operations. Previously, he was executive vice president for people and performance, controller, and general manager for operations business services. Thomas succeeds Kimberly Greene, who moved into the newly created position of group president for strategy and external relations in January 2010.
Herrin is responsible for building and maintaining the quality and effectiveness of TVA’s work force, including personnel policies and operations, talent management, and labor relations. Previously, she was senior vice president for river operations. In that position, she was responsible for operating and maintaining TVA’s 29 hydroelectric facilities, 20 non-powered dams, one pumped-storage plant, and 14 navigation locks.
McCormick is taking over Herrin’s river operations responsibilities. Before taking this position, he was senior vice president of fossil operations, where he was responsible for all of TVA’s coal and gas operations. McCormick joined TVA in 2007 from Exelon Power. He has 25 years of experience in fossil and hydroelectric plant operations, maintenance, and generation.
TVA provides electricity for utility and business customers in most of Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia.
Stelle named NOAA Fisheries Service northwest administrator
The Obama administration named Will Stelle northwest administrator of NOAA Fisheries Service in Seattle. Formerly, Stelle held the post from 1994 to 2000 under the Clinton administration.
Stelle oversaw development of the 2000 plan for balancing dams against salmon, known as a biological opinion, which was struck down by U.S. Circuit Judge James Redden.
Stelle took over as northwest administrator June 1, replacing Bob Lohn. Before this, Stelle was an attorney with K&L Gates. He has headed the firm’s Endangered Species Act (ESA) practice group, which advises public and private clients on ESA-related compliance issues.
