Peterborough, NH [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Many towns and communities realize the importance of transitioning to some form of renewable energy in the coming years. The question is, what form? In this week’s edition of “Inside Renewable Energy,” Duncan Watson, Assistant Director of Public Works for Keene, NH, talks about the confusing task of figuring out which form of renewable energy to adopt. Due to robust local resources, Watson is leaning toward wind power, but the longstanding opposition to commercial wind turbines among some New Englanders may be a make-or-break consideration. Watson is undertaking a careful review of the town’s options and researching other towns’ renewable energy systems to determine what makes the most sense for Keene.
We’ll hear from RE Insider Scott Sklar in this week’s podcast. Sklar contrasts the unregulated freedom of the U.S. energy market with the more state-controlled markets of Europe and Asia and discusses the implications for the future of U.S. energy. Sklar also analyzes the U.S. nuclear power industry, which is reportedly in the midst of a “renaissance.” With the oil economy under increasing duress, the nuclear power industry has become more visible and has strengthened its lobbying presence in Washington, says Sklar. Safety concerns, however, will likely continue to hamper investment and expansion. “Inside Renewable Energy” offers the latest in renewable energy news and information.Midsize Town Looks for Ways to Go Renewable, RE Insider Scott Sklar on U.S. Energy Policy and Nuclear Power
