Plant To Reduce Landfill Usage, Methane Emissions

Genahol Energy, LLC has announced that it has reached an agreement with the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) to construct a recycling facility at its landfill in Grove City Township, Ohio.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – April 30, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] The facility will convert paper and green waste into ethanol and other commercial products. Ethanol is an alternative fuel that is primarily used as an additive in gasoline and diesel fuel to reduce harmful emissions. This project is anticipated to save money for taxpayers and will create 60 to 80 jobs over the next 3 to 5 years. “Genahol will provide SWACO and its community members with an innovative solution that advances our goals of slowing landfill usage, reducing methane emissions, improving operational efficiency and saving money,” said Michael Long, executive director of SWACO. “This project will be an important step forward, as we work toward achieving state mandates to increase recycling and extend landfill useful lives.” Key aspects of this project include: over 750 tons of paper and solid waste will be processed daily, resulting in the production of approximately 10 million gallons of ethanol annually; SWACO will receive a percentage of the ethanol sale proceeds; Genahol anticipates that it will finance the US$40,000,000 project with a combination of debt and equity from investors; the facility payroll is expected to reach approximately US$5,000,000 annually; the plant is not expected to produce emissions or odors. “U.S. drivers use more than 16 billion gallons of cleaner-burning gasoline-ethanol blends annually,” said Donald Bogner, founder of Genahol. “The federal government has taken steps to promote usage of alternative fuels and ethanol consumption is projected to expand rapidly over the next decade. The ethanol market in North America is in a state of infancy now and we anticipate that Genahol will participate in the strong growth that we envision.”
