Peru renews solicitation for Olmos irrigation system studies

Peru’s investment agency has renewed an invitation for expressions of interest from consultants to conduct studies of water delivery and distribution for irrigation as part of the giant Olmos multi-purpose project. Responses now are due August 20.

Agencia de Promocion de la Inversion Privada (ProInversion) seeks consultants to prepare: feasibility studies of the project works for conducting and distributing water for irrigation; a master plan for the zone of influence of the irrigation system in seven river basins; and an update of environmental and social impact studies. (HNN 6/13/07)

ProInversion previously awarded a US$6.1 million contract to a consortium of Coyne et Bellier of France and Peru firms Lahmeyer Agua y Energia and Alpha Consult to supervise the initial phase of the irrigation and hydroelectric project. In April, it took bids from firms to build one or more hydropower plants, which have been estimated to involve 600 MW of capacity.

The initial phase of the project currently includes building a 15-kilometer Transandino Tunnel and the first stage of Limon Dam, diverting 2.05 million cubic meters of water per year from the Huancabamba River, in the Atlantic Basin, through the Andes Mountains to the Pacific Basin, where it will be used for hydropower and irrigation. Brazilian construction company Constutora Norberto Odebrecht S.A. was contracted to build the giant water transfer system.

Expressions of interest and qualifications now are due by 5 p.m. August 20 to the address below, in sealed envelope to the Director Ejecutivo, with attention to Mario Hernandez Rubinos. ProInversion plans to select a short list of firms for invitations to bid.
