The Irrigation and Power Department of Pakistan’s Punjab State has reissued an invitation for pre-qualification to rehabilitate and modernize Jinnah Barrage on the Indus River. Responses are due July 13.
The agency canceled a previous solicitation that had divided the work into two lots, one for civil works and the other for mechanical and electrical works. The current solicitation invites pre-qualification for a single contract for all work at Jinnah Barrage, which was built in 1943.
The department recruited experts in December 2010 to serve on a five-member panel to advise on rehabilitation and modernization of Jinnah. A joint venture of MM Pakistan and Nippon Koei UK was named in 2007 to design the refurbishment work. In a separate project, Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority named MWH of the United States to provide construction management for the 96-MW Jinnah hydroelectric project.
The Irrigation and Power Department seeks to pre-qualify firms for civil works including a subsidiary weir 600 to 800 feet downstream from the main barrage weir; repairs to the barrage floor, impact and friction blocks, and guide banks; extension of abutments and downstream divide walls; construction of spur; and renovation of building and infrastructure. The contract also is to incorporate mechanical and electrical works including renovation of barrage gates and hoist system and automation of gate operation; and upgrading of barrage monitoring system and basic operation and maintenance facilities.
Pre-qualification documents in English may be obtained from the address below for a fee of 8,500 rupees or US$100 payable by bank draft or pay order in favor of Head/Project Director, PMO for Punjab Barrages Rehabilitation and Modernization Projects. Previous applicants must resubmit applications, but may obtain fresh pre-qualification documents free of charge.
Applications for pre-qualification are due by 2:30 p.m. July 13, labeled “Application to Pre-qualify for Rehabilitation & Modernization of Jinnah Barrage (JC/ICB-01).”
