Itezhi Tezhi Power Corp. (ITPC) plans to reopen bidding for construction of the 120-MW Itezhi-Tezhi hydroelectric project on the Kafue River as a single engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) contract. ITPC said the invitation to bid would be available by August 26.
ITPC, a joint venture of Zambia Electricity Supply Corp. and Tata Africa Holdings (Pty) of South Africa, previously planned to carry out the US$230 million project through separate contracts for infrastructure, civil and hydro-mechanical works, and electro-mechanical equipment. For the current solicitation, all work is to be combined into a single EPC contract. The hydro project is to be built at the existing Itezhi-Tezhi Dam, a storage reservoir for 900-MW Kafue Gorge, 230 kilometers downstream.
Work is to include two 60-MW turbine-generators; intake structure with screens, trashrack, and gates; two penstocks and screens; powerhouse with control room, relay room, station services, and battery room; substation and switchyard; auxiliary equipment and balance of plant; and design and construction of civil works.
