Zambia seeks consultant to advance small hydro, solar projects

Zambia’s Rural Electrification Authority (REA) invites expressions of interest from consultants to advance development of small hydro and solar power projects as part of its Increased Access to Electricity Services Project. Responses are due September 20.

Zambian President Michael Sata last year directed state-owned Zambia Electricity Supply Corp. Ltd. to increase its hydropower development. The utility has been advancing large projects such as 750-MW Kafue Gorge Lower and the 1,600-MW Batoka Gorge project being developed with Zimbabwe.

In the current solicitation, REA seeks consultants to serve as project management consultant to supervise the electricity access project including a mini-hydropower development framework, sustainable solar market packages, grid extension projects, and connection fee subsidies.

Expressions of interest, labeled “Provision of Project Supervision Consulting Services for the Rural Electrification Authority Increased Access to Electricity Services Project (IAES) Component,” are to be deposited by 2:30 p.m. September 20 in the tender box at the address below.
