Developers this month inaugurated the 28-MW Ea Krong Rou hydroelectric project in Ninh Hoa District of Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa Province.
Ea Krong Rou was connected to the national grid earlier in the year, Vietnam News Agency said. Central Electricity Investment and Development Joint Stock Co. financed the 482 billion dong (US$30 million) project on a build-own-operate basis.
The two-unit project is expected to generate 120 GWh per year and will store 36 million cubic meters of water for irrigation.
Ea Krong Rou, also called Eak Rong Rou, was one of 44 hydropower projects totaling 5,160 MW that Vietnam approved in 2003 for development by government utility Electricity of Vietnam and other developers. It was among more than a dozen hydro projects that the government had expected to be brought on line by 2006.
