U.S. seeks bids to rehab gates at 517.8-MW Garrison, 786-MW Oahe

OMAHA, Neb., U.S. 4/27/12 (PennWell) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids to rehabilitate spillway gates at 517.8-MW Garrison Dam and 786-MW Oahe Dam on the Missouri River. The Corps also seeks bids for abutment stabilization at Oahe. Bids are due May 18 in separate solicitations.

The Corps’ Omaha District previously announced it expected to issue the solicitations in April. All are set aside for small businesses.

The agency awarded a contract in 2011 to Koontz Electric Co. Inc. for upgrade of Garrison’s switchyard in North Dakota. In 2010 it took bids to supply five generator air coolers for Oahe, in South Dakota.

The Corps seeks bids from small businesses May 18 to rehabilitate 28 steel tainter gates at Garrison. The gates are 40 feet wide and 29 feet high. The work is valued at between $7.5 million and $10 million.

Oahe Dam tainter gates

The Corps seeks bids from small businesses May 18 to rehabilitate eight steel tainter gates at Oahe. The gates are 50 feet wide and 23.5 feet high. The work is valued at between $5 million and $7.5 million.

Oahe Dam stilling basin bridge abutment stabilization

The Corps also seeks bids from small businesses May 18 for a wide range of design-build and construction services for sites primarily in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota, to include buildings, structures, and site work. It is to be a multiple award task order contract with up to five small business awards totaling $49 million.

As part of the solicitation, the Corps plans to award Task Order No. 0001 for Oahe Dam stilling basin bridge abutment stabilization. The task includes bank stabilization and rock riprap protection on the east bank of the stilling basin channel and adjacent to the stilling basin bridge. The work is valued at between $250,000 and $500,000.
