The government of Tanzania plans to seek bids for engineering and construction supervision services for electricity transmission and distribution work and for construction of the 8-MW Malagarasi hydroelectric project on the Malagarasi River.
A request for proposals is to be available about December 19, with bids expected to be due about February 15, 2008.
The U.S. government’s Millennium Challenge Corp. (MCC) awarded a US$698 million U.S. grant to Tanzania to fund improvements to roads, power, and water supply, including the Malagarasi project. (HNN 9/20/07) Tanzania set up a special entity to carry out the work, MCA-Tanzania.
MCA-Tanzania is to seek consulting engineer and construction supervision services, for:
o Construction of access roads, a bridge, the Malagarasi run-of-river hydro plant, and a Kigoma Region transmission and distribution network;
o Rehabilitation of power distribution systems and network extension in six regions;
o Construction of a Zanzibar underwater transmission cable and related transmission lines and substations; and
o Technical assistance for Tanzania Electric Supply Co. and Zanzibar Electricity Co.
Work is to begin in April 2008 and continue for nine months, and five years through a contract option.
The request for proposals is to be available on the MCA-Tanzania Internet site, www.mca-t.go.tz, about December 19. MCC procurement guidelines are on the MCC Internet site, www.mcc.gov. All procurement documents will be in English.
A pre-bid conference is to be held as specified in the request for proposals. The exact due date for proposals, estimated to be February 15, 2008, will be specified in the request for proposals.
