Reservoir fill resumes at Brazil’s 880-MW Campos Novos

Between November 25 and December 5, the gates of the 880-MW Campos Novos hydroelectric project are to close to resume filling of the project reservoir, Brazilian officials reported.

Brazil utility regulator Agencia Nacional de Energia Eletrica (ANEEL) said Campos Novos’ completion schedule had been disrupted by a problem of leaking in the dam and diversion tunnel. With completion of repair work, the project will resume storing water for unit testing and eventual commercial operation, ANEEL said.

The project’s three 293.3-MW generating units are to go on line in February, March, and April of 2007 on the Canoas River in Santa Catarina State. (HNN 11/15/06)

The development consortium Campos Novos Energia S/A won the concession for construction and operation of the project in 1998.
