Schneider Electric announced enhancements to the PowerLogic PM8000 series meter. New features include low voltage control power capabilities as well as enhanced cybersecurity and web pages. The PowerLogic PM8000 series delivers superior revenue accuracy, and power quality compliance and analysis ideal for industrial and critical power facilities.The PowerLogic PM8000 series meters simplify power quality compliance monitoring and analysis to rapidly pinpoint and address critical power issues. The meters’ extensive power quality analysis capabilities include EN 50160 compliance, sag/swell detection, waveform capture, disturbance direction detection, automated alarm configuration and trending, and forecasting, which help facility managers detect, mitigate and correct adverse conditions. New models provide compatibility with 20 V to 60 V low voltage DC control power systems. DC control power schemes are becoming increasingly popular because they are safer for personnel and can be more reliable than an AC source because DC power can be provided by backup batteries during an outage. This allows the meter to continue monitoring when power fluctuates or shuts down.

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories announced it has added PTP support to its SEL-2740S Software-Defined Network Switch. The SEL-2740S improves cybersecurity, network performance, and traffic management in the substation LAN. And now, the SEL-2740S supports Precision Time Protocol (PTP), defined by the IEEE 1588 standard. PTP is used to synchronize time over Ethernet networks to within a microsecond. This microsecond accuracy is required for power system applications such as synchrophasors, sampled values, and traveling-wave fault locating. The SEL-2740S Switch acts as a PTP transparent clock and uses the IEEE C37.238 power system profile to ensure high-accuracy time synchronization throughout the substation. With the SEL-2740S, the SEL-2488 Satellite-Synchronized Network Clock and SEL-400 series protective relays, SEL now offers a reliable, end-to-end PTP solution for the electric utility substation. This single-manufacturer solution ensures compatibility and simplifies support.

The solution is designed to enhance performance and reliability while simplifying equipment configuration, installation, operation and control. To support the sensing performance for a smarter grid, the NOVA NX-T recloser is a fully integrated solution with highly accurate, resistive source-side and optional loadside sensors, offering ±2 percent accuracy across the full rated temperature range. Helping ensure overall system reliability, the NOVA NX-T recloser protects all sensitive control electronics in an IP43-rated enclosure, while MIL-SPEC twist/lock connectors positively seal out moisture and Eaton’s proven epoxy insulation solution withstands extreme temperatures and harsh environments.
