Russian equipment manufacturer PJSC Power Machines – ZTL, LMZ, Electrosila, Energomachexport has won a contract to provide turbines, generators and other equipment for the Nizhegorodskaya plant.
The value of the deal will not exceed 1.33 billion rubles ($22.86 million) and also calls for the Power Machines Group to supply automatic relay protection and automated control systems for the hydropower facility. Neither the manufacturer nor RusHydro have specified whether the modernization project will increase its cumulative output capacity from its current 520 MW.
The company said it will finalize the contract by the end of the month.
Nizhegorodskaya, completed in 1956 and located on the Volga River in eastern Russia, is an eight-unit facility and part of the 10,000-MW Volga-Kama cascade.
RusHydro has been performing upgrades at a number of the Volga-Kama plants over the past decade, with Nizhegorodskaya receiving new spillway gates in 2013.
