Energias de Portugal (EDP) seeks bids for turbine-generators and other equipment for the Alqueva 2 pumped-storage project, an estimated 240-MW expansion of the 259.2-MW Alqueva hydroelectric project. Bids are due May 12.
The Portuguese utility previously called for bids by March 17 to build a new powerhouse for expansion of the Alqueva multipurpose project on Portugal’s Guadiana River. (HNN 1/14/08) EDP now identifies the project as Alqueva Central 2.
EDP agreed in October to pay a total of 636 million euros (US$907.4 million) to operate for 35 years the Alqueva and 10-MW Pedrogao projects, both on the Guadiana. (HNN 10/25/07) At that time it said it is investing another 156 million euros (US$222.5 million) to repower and expand the plants. EDP said Alqueva could be expanded another 240 MW with a pump-back feature.
In the latest solicitation, EDP seeks pump-turbines, motor-generators, transformers, substation and interconnection, command and control equipment, and auxiliary equipment. The work is to be completed in 42 months.
Bid documents may be obtained from the address below for 2,500 euros (US$3,695). Documents will be supplied in digital format.
