Peru’s energy and mines ministry has issued another in a series of calls for expressions of interest from consultants for studies of new development of small hydro projects in Peru. Responses are due May 24.
The Ministerio de Energia y Minas courted consultants in 2012 to develop socio-environmental studies and technical and economic pre-feasibility studies of small and medium-sized hydro projects. With funding from the World Bank’s International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the ministry is implementing a rural electrification program including hydropower.
In the latest solicitation, the ministry seeks supervision of pre-feasibility and socio-economic studies of 21 hydroelectric projects of from 10 to 100 MW each. For each project selected, the agency seeks basic studies, project alternatives and definitions, basic engineering, cost estimates and implementation schedules, and economic evaluations. It also seeks environmental and social evaluation of the project areas and proposed solutions for every identified environmental or social effect.
