Operators of the world’s largest hydro plants gather again at HYDROVISION 2023

Large hydro symposium

Recognizing that the owners and operators of the world’s largest hydroelectric power plants face unique challenges and have few “peers” with which to exchange best practices, lessons learned and solutions developed, Clarion Energy is again organizing its Global Symposium for Large Hydropower Plant Operators in 2023.

This complimentary, invitation-only forum provides a unique opportunity to share valuable information with and gain insights from other large hydro operators across the globe. This forum previously took place on Monday, July 11, immediately before HYDROVISION International 2022, with participation from the Bureau of Reclamation, China Three Gorges, Copel, Itaipu Binacional and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The first such symposium, held in 2016, provided content and connections for such large hydro plant operators as Reclamation, China Three Gorges, China Yangtze Power Co., Hydro-Quebec, Itaipu Binacional and Water and Power Development Authority.

The 2023 forum symposium will take place on Monday, July 10 in Charlotte, N.C., U.S. This timing, the day before HYDROVISION International 2023 kicks off, also will allow attendees to take advantage of the breadth of education provided at this world’s largest hydro industry event. The 2022 event, the first since the COVID-19 pandemic, attracted about 2,000 attendees and nearly 220 product and service providers, representing more than 40 countries. HYDROVISION International offers unparalleled networking opportunities and nearly 70 separate educational sessions with lessons learned from about 200 speakers.

The learning symposium will feature several content sessions, delivered by the attendees and covering topics uniquely of interest for large hydro facilities. Some topics from 2022 included digital techniques for hydroelectric project management, optimizing the hydraulic turbine operating zone and dealing with workplace challenges.

HYDROVISION International takes place July 11 to 13 in Charlotte. Click here to keep up to date on the latest news surrounding the event.
