The 10-nation Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) requests expressions of interest from consultants to provide training services to staff of its hydropower-based regional power trade project. Responses are due December 21.
Representing the nations of Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda, the NBI’s Shared Vision Program has received a World Bank grant to carry out the regional power trade project. (HNN 9/27/07)
The organization seeks a consultant to provide training to the NBI’s Project Management Unit and Project Technical Committee. Training programs are to include:
o Power system simulation, modeling techniques, and demand forecasting;
o High-voltage transmission line design and construction techniques;
o Preparation and negotiation of bulk cross-border power sales agreements;
o Strategic, social, and environmental assessment; and
o United Nations Clean Development Mechanism program.
Consultants may respond for any or all of the training services.

Nile Basin seeks wetlands resources inventory
The Nile Basin Initiative also seeks expressions of interest from consultants to conduct an inventory of wetlands resources in the Nile Basin. Responses are due December 31.
Under the Nile Transboundary Environmental Action Project, NBI seeks an inventory of wetlands resources as a basis for management and monitoring using geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing to support decision making in sustainable management of wetlands.
