Mexico’s Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) is making draft rules available to restart bidding for construction of the 750-MW La Yesca hydroelectric project on the Santiago River.
CFE is making the rules available on its Internet site through January 30, Business News Americas said.
Late last year, CFE rejected bids by a consortia led by Mexico’s Ingenieros Civiles Asociados and by China’s Sinohydro Corp. because they exceeded the ceiling price set by the government. Another bid, by a group led by Italy’s Impregilo, failed to reach technical requirements, the utility said. (HNN 11/3/06)
To be located at Hostotipaquillo in Jalisco State, La Yesca is to include a 210-meter-tall concrete-faced rockfill dam, a basin of 12 million cubic meters, and an underground powerhouse containing two 375-MW turbine-generators. Bidding is to include civil, electro-mechanical, and associated work.
The winning bidder is to have access to a development bank loan, to help cover investment in the estimated US$850 million project, under CFE’s financed public works scheme. CFE plans on first unit completion in February 2011, followed by second unit completion in May 2011, and completion of the project in June 2011.
