Kenya’s Athi Water Services Board invites expressions of interest from firms to perform hydro development feasibility studies for the water agency’s Chania River Outfall and Thika Dam off-take sites as well as design and supervision of a Chania River Outfall hydroelectric project. Responses are due July 25.
Athi Water Services Board is one of eight regional water service boards established under Kenya’s Ministry of Water and Irrigation. The ministry recruited consultants in May to serve as experts on a dam safety panel for development of at least six dams including at least one potential hydroelectric project.
The Athi Water solicitation is part of a World Bank-funded Water and Sanitation Services Improvement Project for Kenya. With other World Bank funding, the multi-nation Nile Basin Initiative previously recruited consultants to identify multi-purpose water resources projects in the Gucha-Migori River and Yala River basins of Kenya.
Athi Water seeks consultant services for Phase 1, a feasibility study of Chania and Thika hydroelectric projects and design and bidding document preparation for the Chania plant, and Phase 2, supervision and coordination of works for the Chania plant. Phase 1 is expected to require 12 months, while Phase 2 is to require 30 months.
Expressions of interest are due in person, by mail, e-mail, or fax to the address below by July 25. Submissions are to be labeled “Request for Expression of Interest for Consultancy Services for Feasibility Study for Hydropower Plants at Chania River Outfall and Thika Dam, and Design and Supervision of the Construction of Hydropower Generation Station at Chania River Outfall, Contract No. AWSB/WaSSIP-AF/Comp 1/CS 20/13.”
