The Indonesia government has named a domestic consortium to build and equip the 20-MW Genyem hydroelectric project in Papua Province.
The Directorate General of Electricity and Energy Utilization awarded a US$26.7 million turnkey contract to Waskita-Gxed/Tkl Consortium of Jakarta. The contract was awarded under the Renewable Energy Development Sector Project backed by the Asian Development Bank.
Indonesia utility PT PLN (Persero) originally called for bids in 2006 to build and equip Genyem. Work included design, supply, construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of the project, which is to have two 10-MW turbine-generators.
PT PLN and carbon credits trader EcoSecurities signed an emissions reduction purchase agreement in 2007 to help finance development of Genyem, four other hydroelectric projects, and a geothermal plant.
