India’s Himachal Pradesh Power Corp. Ltd. (HPPC) seeks bids to construct civil and hydro-mechanical works of the 450-MW Shongtong-Karcham hydroelectric project on the Satluj River in Himachal Pradesh State. Bids are due April 5.
Shongtong-Karcham (or Songtong Karcham) is one of four run-of-river projects HPPC is developing under the Multi-Tranche Financing Facility Himachal Clean Power Development program funded by the Asian Development Bank. The other three projects are 243-MW Integrated Kashang (including Kashang Stages 1-4) on the Kashang River; 111-MW Sawra Kuddu on the Pabbar River; and 100-MW Sainj (or Sanj) on the Sainj River.
Shongtong-Karcham is to include a diversion dam, tunnel, and powerhouse with three Francis turbine-generators. HPPC recruited consultants in 2008 to help select an engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) contractor to build the project.
HPPC now seeks an EPC contractor for planning, design, engineering, and construction of river diversion works, diversion dam, intake, desanding arrangement, headrace tunnel, surge shaft, pressure shaft, underground powerhouse complex, tailrace tunnel, access adits, underground switchyard, access roads, penstock liner, gates, hoists, and valves.
A pre-bid conference is scheduled February 15. Bidding documents in English may be obtained, for Contract No. P/ADB/HPCEDIP/Shongtong-Karcham (Civil and HM Works), for 20,000 rupees or US$450 by crossed demand draft to Himachal Pradesh Power Corp.
