India seeks more headrace tunnel work at 800-MW Parbati 2

India’s NHPC Ltd. has issued another solicitation for completion of civil works of a headrace tunnel of the 800-MW Parbati 2 hydroelectric project, this time specifying a drill and blast method plus hydro-mechanical works. Bids are due November 23.

NHPC said questions were due October 22 with a pre-bid meeting set October 26.

In a separate tender, NHPC again extended the deadline for bids for completion of headrace tunnel civil works including excavation by tunnel-boring machine (Lot PB 2A) at Parbati 2 on the Parbati River in India’s Himachal Pradesh State.

Parbati 2 is an inter-basin transfer project that is to be augmented by diverting the discharge of various streams, or nallahs, along the headrace tunnel alignment. NHPC took bids in 2010 to build the Jiwa Nallah works of Parbati 2.

The government-owned developer now seeks Lot PB 2B, construction of the balance of civil works of a headrace tunnel by drill and blast method, associated works, and hydro-mechanical works, including a vertical gate operated by rope drum hoist. The work is to require 48 months.

Tender documents may be obtained from NHPC’s Internet site, www.nhpcindia.com. Documents also may be obtained until November 16 by mail or November 22 by hand from the address below upon payment of 10,000 rupees (US$176) by demand draft to NHPC Ltd. at Faridabad. An additional 500 rupees (US$8.80) is charged for mail delivery.

Requests for clarification may be submitted until October 22. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled October 26.

Bidding extended again for tunnel boring at Parbati 2

In the earlier solicitation, Lot PB 2A, NHPC again extended the deadline for bids for completion of headrace tunnel civil works including excavation by tunnel-boring machine at Parbati 2. Bids now are due October 30.

NHPC previously called for bids by August 31 and August 7.

The developer seeks excavation by tunnel-boring machine of about 4,849 meters of 6-meter-diameter tunnel. Work also includes concrete lining of 8,972 meters of the tunnel. The work is expected to require 48 months, down from a previous estimate of 58 months.
