Pakistan’s 147-MW Patrind hydroelectric project has earned status as a clean development mechanism (CDM) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, HydroWorld.com has learned.
The Patrind hydel project is located on Pakistan’s Kunhar River and is being developed by a consortium called Star Hydro Power Limited (SHPL), which is comprised of the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) and the Daewoo Engineering & Construction Company.
The group is reported to have filed its application for CDM registration in June 2012, saying the Patrind plant will reduce carbon dioxide output by about 270,000 tons per year.
