India renews pre-qualifying to build India’s 520-MW Teesta 4 hydro project

India’s NHPC Ltd. invites applications for pre-qualification to construct two lots of civil works of the 520-MW Teesta Stage 4 hydroelectric project in India’s Sikkim State. Responses to two solicitations are due October 3 and 9.

NHPC invited similar pre-qualification for the work in 2012. India’s Forest Advisory Committee reversed in February a requirement for cumulative impact assessments of Teesta 4, 800-MW Tawang 2 in Arunachal Pradesh, and 775-MW Luhri in Himachal Pradesh.

Teesta 4 is one of six hydropower projects proposed for a cascade on the Teesta River. The project is to feature four 130-MW turbine-generators.

NHPC issued two solicitations for prequalification to carry out civil works of Teesta Stage 4:

  • Lot 1: Construction of a diversion tunnel, coffer dam, concrete gravity dam, intake, diversion tunnel gates and hoist, desilting chambers, and headrace tunnel up to RD 1,780 meters, completion in 67 months.

A tender notice for Lot 1 may be obtained from the NHPC Internet site under http://www.nhpcindia.com/tenders.htm?Tid=9245. Pre-qualification documents may be obtained until October 8 for 40,000 rupees (US$632). Applications for pre-qualification are due by 1 p.m. October 9.

  • Lot 2: Construction of headrace tunnels from RD 1,780 meters onward, adit 2, surge shafts, pressure shafts, underground powerhouse, transformers hall, tailrace tunnels, and pothead yard, completion in 60 months.

A tender notice for Lot 2 may be obtained from the NHPC Internet site under http://www.nhpcindia.com/tenders.htm?Tid=9243. Pre-qualification documents may be obtained until October 2 for 20,000 rupees (US$316). Applications for pre-qualification are due by 1 p.m. October 3.

Complete pre-qualification documents may be obtained and responses submitted at the website www.tcil-india-electronictender.com.
