Honduras utility Empresa Nacional de Energia Electrica (ENEE) has submitted information and studies to Corporacion HG on development of the 124-MW Los Chorros hydroelectric project on Honduras’ Sico River.
An ENEE official told Business News Americas that ENEE signed a memorandum of understanding with Corporacion HG to study the feasibility of building the US$224 million project in Colon Department. The state-owned ENEE would participate as a partner and purchase project power.
South Korea’s Korea Electric Power Corp. is to perform the feasibility study of Los Chorros, the official said.
Brazil firms to study 97-MW Los Llanitos, 172-MW Jicatuyo
An ENEE official told BNAmericas two Brazilian consulting firms would help ENEE update studies for the 97-MW Los Llanitos and 172-MW Jicatuyo hydroelectric projects. The work is to be performed over six months in 2009.
Work also continues on financial closure and finalization of a built-operate-transfer contract with Brazilian construction company CNO. Brazil is helping develop the plants and has pledged financing to come from the Inter-American Development Bank.
In 2007, ENEE said Brazil utility Furnas Centrais Eletricas would participate in building the projects, then estimated at US$751 million. (HNN 11/8/07)
The dams are to be built in northwestern Honduras, Los Llanitos on the Ulua River and Jicatuyo on the Jicatuyo River a tributary of the Ulua, which rises in the country’s central mountainous region and runs north to the Gulf of Honduras.
