Ghana seeks preparedness for 1,062-MW Akosombo, 160-MW Kpong

Ghana’s Volta River Authority (VRA) invites expressions of interest from consultants to carry out emergency preparedness planning for the 1,062-MW Akosombo and 160-MW Kpong projects on the Volta River. Responses are due November 10.

Ghana received a US$45 million credit from the World Bank’s International Development Association for the West Africa Power Pool Program. In addition to the hydro project work, VRA requested expressions of interest by November 10 for studies of two proposed transmission lines. (HNN 7/7/06)

For the hydro projects, VRA seeks consulting services for an evaluation of dam safety and preparation of emergency preparedness plans. It also seeks environmental management plans for both Akosombo and Kpong. The plans are to conform to policies of Ghana, international financial institutions, and the World Commission on Dams report.

Expressions of interest, and qualifications, labeled “EOI: Evaluation/Assessment of Dam Safety and Preparation of Emergency Preparedness Plan for Akosombo and Kpong Hydroelectric Generation Stations: Consulting Services,” are due by 3 p.m. November 10 to the Conference Hall, Cafeteria Building, at the address below.
