Egypt’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) invites expressions of interest from consultants to prepare a master plan for rehabilitation or replacement of major hydraulic structures on the Nile River. Responses are due August 25.
MWRI and its Reservoirs and Grand Barrages Sector received a grant from the African Development Bank to develop the master plan. MWRI took bids in April for equipment to study sedimentation in Lake Nasser/Nubia, formed by Egypt’s 1,200-MW Aswan High Dam on the Nile. (HydroWorld 4/15/10) It also recruited consultants in April to study refurbishment of Zefta Barrage on the Nile, including options to add hydropower. (HydroWorld 3/26/10)
The current solicitation has three main components:
o Site investigations and development of a geographic information system database, detailed inspections, and data collection for up to 200 hydraulic structures;
o Safety evaluations and development of a decision support system; and
o Development of a master plan, a strategic environmental assessment, and preparation of a capital investment project for priority structures.
The capital investment project in the third component is to include detailed feasibility studies, detailed designs, and preparation of tender documents.
Expressions of interest and qualifications are due by noon August 25 to the address below. Responses are to be labeled “Request for Expression of Interest for the Consultancy Services of the Preparation of a Master Plan for the Rehabilitation/Replacement of Major Hydraulic Structures in Egypt.” MWRI plans to short list six firms for invitations to bid.
