Corps seeks draft tube crane rehab at 100-MW Old Hickory

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids to rehabilitate a 15-ton gantry draft tube crane at the 100-MW Old Hickory hydroelectric project on the Cumberland River in Tennessee. Bids are due July 26.

The Corps’ Nashville District previously said it expected to take bids about June 15.

Old Hickory, in Sumner County, Tenn., is among nine Corps hydropower plants on the Cumberland that a study found need as much as $470 million in repairs. The Corps took bids in 2010 to rehabilitate bridge cranes at Old Hickory and the 130-MW Barkley hydroelectric project in Kentucky.

In a small business set-aside, the current work is to include replacement of wire rope, controls, lights, control wiring, power wiring, motors, seals, couplings, and brakes. The contractor also is to inspect and service reducers, drums, and drive systems. The work is expected to cost between $500,000 and $1 million.

Corps to seek tainter gate hoist chain assemblies for Old Hickory

The Corps also plans to seek bids to fabricate and deliver tainter gate hoist chain assemblies and lifting lug assemblies for Old Hickory.

The agency said it expects to release a solicitation about July 11, with bids to be due about August 4.
