The Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) has signed a two-part concession contract with consortium Generadora Electrica Molloco for the development of the 300-MW Molloco hydropower project.
According to MEM, the first 24-month phase will see Generadora Electrica Molloco complete studies on the project, which would be followed by a five-year construction phase.
The project will use water resources in the Molloco River Basin and Palca River, with energy generated reportedly being supplied to Empresa de Generacion Electrica de Arequipa S.A. (Egasa).
The US$600 million project will include several regulation dams, in addition to a pair of hydroelectric powerhouses, including the 142-MW Llatica and 159-MW Soro.
The consortium responsible for developing Molloco includes Spanish form Corsam Corvian and Brazil’s Engevix and Enex.
