Colombia utility Empresas Publicas de Medellin (EPM) invites expressions of interest from consultants to develop water quality models for the proposed reservoir and downstream of the 2,400-MW Ituango hydroelectric project in Colombia. Questions may be submitted until April 4, with responses due April 11.
EPM last year recruited a financial consultant for Ituango. Alstom received a contract in 2012 to supply eight 300-MW Francis turbines, along with speed regulators, cylindrical gates, generators and excitation systems. Preliminary work for project construction began in 2011.
The utility now seeks expressions of interest from consultants to implement one or more mathematical models to predict different scenarios of water quality in the future reservoir and downstream in the Cauca River. Models are to consider sediment, macrophytes, debris, stratification, and possible emission of greenhouse gases. The work is expected to require 365 days.
